Not sure what to pack for your upcoming summer road trip? Well, don’t stress! I’ve created a road trip packing guide to help you on the summer road trip you’ll take this year.
Here’s what to pack for a weekend summer road trip!
Essentials

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
A valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance are the most important things you have to include in your packing list for your road trip. Also, it’s not a bad idea to print a map as a backup in case your digital technology acts up!
SUN PROTECTION
Sunglasses– A good pair of sunglasses will help reduce UV rays, so I always make sure to pack my Ray-Bans.
Hats/Visors– Hats help protect you from UV rays and they are also very stylish!
Sunscreen– Sunscreen is super important for any type of summer vacation, so be sure to pack this if you plan to be by the water and outdoors!
TOILETRIES
Everyone’s toiletry bag will look a little different; some need high-quality shampoo and conditioners, but others are good with just a bar of soap. But typically, you will want to bring toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, shaving cream, razors (because…summer), makeup remover, face wash, moisturizer, deodorant, and any special hair products you use.
WATER BOTTLE
Staying hydrated is always important, so pack a refillable water bottle .
Emergency Kit
Bring any medicine you will need for the length of your trip, and include a first aid kit. You can purchase or make your own first aid kit for your car that includes basics like band-aids in several sizes, ibuprofen, cotton swabs, antibiotic ointment, antiseptic wipes, gauze pads of different sizes, plastic gloves, and scissors.
Pack an emergency kit that includes: a spare tire, jumper cables, a flashlight (and extra batteries), a blanket, and bottled water. Things you will find handy in case you get stuck in bad weather.
PHONE CHARGER
After using google maps and taking lots of pictures during your awesome road trip, you may need to recharge your phone at some point during your drive.
SNACKS
Could also be categorized as part of the emergency kit, if I’m keeping it real. Granola, dried fruit snacks and trail mixes are great for road trips.
Luggage & Travel Bags
A good travel bag is always an absolute must-have. Leave your hard suitcase at home and instead use a soft bag for your road trip because it’s easier to fit in the trunk of your car.
Clothes
Swimwear
If you’re planning on being near the water during your trip, and I hope you are, don’t forget a few swimsuits!
Tops
T-shirts/Tank Tops/Blouses – Comfy and breathable tops for the heat will pair great with denim shorts.
Rain Jacket – For those not so sunny summer days.
Denim Jacket or Sweater – For cold mornings or evenings, plus they are super cute for layering.
Bottoms
Shorts – Denim shorts are a summer staple for a reason! They are always a practical and stylish option for the summer because they help keep you cool, plus it’s easy to create outfits with them.
Leggings – Leggings are great for the drive in the car or for any outdoor activity that you have planned during your trip.
Sundresses/Maxi DresseS
Summer heat can be brutal. Flowy dresses will help you stay cool! Plus, they are also easy to pack for a summer road trip. I recommend taking one or two dresses.
Shoes
Sandals – You’ll want comfortable and casual sandals that you can walk around in.
Sneakers -A pair of sneakers is a must if you plan on doing any hiking or outdoor activity.
Flip Flops – Depending on what you’re doing in the ocean or near the water, you may want to bring some flip flops with you.
