Back during Prohibition, it was a popular moonshine hotspot, and its mineral springs once made it a well-known health resort. Today, Glen Rose is best known as the Dinosaur Capital of Texas, where you can find real dinosaur tracks that are a must-see for any visitor!

1. Explore Dinosaur Valley State Park
My number one recommendation is exploring the scenic trails at Dinosaur Valley State Park, where you can discover real dinosaur tracks that date back to 113 million years! If you visit during warm weather, don’t miss the chance to swim in the Paluxy River.

2. Stroll Through The Historic Downtown Glen Rose
Glen Rose’s Downtown Square is packed with fun local shops and boutiques, perfect for finding unique souvenirs!
For a bite, head over to Storiebook Cafe, a cozy book-themed spot that serves sandwiches, salads, wraps and soups. Be sure to try the GF Berry Crisp if it’s on the menu because it’s delicious! In the evening, enjoy live music and a drink at Blackies on the Square to soak up the fun small town atmosphere.

3. Get Up Close with Wildlife at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center
At the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, you can take a drive-through safari and get up close up to exotic animals. You can choose to go on a self-guided drive ($29.95), where you can feed and interact with animals right from your own vehicle. But if you want something more immersive, a public guided tour ($44.95) and go through the park in an open-air safari vehicle while learning all about the animals.

4. Have Fun at Dinosaur World
Dinosaur World is a quirky, family-friendly attraction where you can walk among life-sized dinosaurs.
It’s definitely geared toward kids, so it many not be for everyone, but its fun for families with little ones. The park is filled with dino-themed playgrounds and tons of fun activities like fossil digs.


5. Visit the Local Museums
Explore the museums Somervell County Museum and the Barnard’s Mill and Art Museum, where you can learn about the area’s local history. Both museums are free to visit, but donations are always welcome.
Somervell County Museum – Check out the large collection of interesting Glen Rose artifacts and dinosaur tracks discovered in the area.
Barnard’s Mill and Art Museum – This historical building has been a gristmill, cotton gin, health spa, and even a hospital before becoming a museum. Learn about its transformation over the years and while also appreciating some of the local art.

When to Go
The best time to visit Glen Rose, Texas is usually in the spring and fall, when outdoor activities like hiking are most comfortable. Summers can be very hot, so plan accordingly!
