A few weeks ago, I took my first-ever Disney Cruise with two girlfriends who are what you call “Disney adults.”
A “Disney adult” is an adult who is a HUGE Disney fan and loves all things related to Disney, sometimes even more than kids do!
Most people think that a Disney cruise is primarily meant for kids. But that’s not entirely true, there are a lot of activities for adults to enjoy as well.
If you’re thinking of planning a cruise, you may want to consider a Disney cruise!
I took the plunge, purchased a few Mickey ears on amazon, packed my swimsuits, and set sail on a Disney cruise with no kids, just my friends!
Here are my top 5 reasons adults should go on a Disney cruise (even without kids)!
1. CASTAWAY CAY – Disney’s Private Island
Castaway Cay (pronounced “key”) is Disney’s private island that no other cruise ship can access. This was my favorite stop during our voyage!
All the Disney cruises that sail to the Bahamas and the Caribbean include a stop at Castaway Cay, and only one ship will dock at a time, so it will not feel super crowded.
Be sure to check their website to search for Disney Cruises that visit Disney Castaway Cay.
On the island, you will find shopping, a few places to grab food and drinks, and different beach areas.
There is a family beach area (geared toward families and kids) where you will find water activities like snorkeling, kayaking, water slides, and so much more.
Further away from the ship and the family beach is the quieter adults-only Serenity Bay Beach.
This is a great place to relax from all the kiddos!
With calm crystal clear waters, plenty of beach chairs, and yummy food and drink options, you will never want to leave! Or at least you will be planning your next trip back to Castaway Cay, anyway!
2. ENTERTAINMENT
You’ll be wowed by the high-quality Broadway-style shows and live musicals performed onboard! Some of the shows are original Disney Cruise Line shows, and others are stage performances of Disney movies.
On the Disney Dream, we saw three amazing shows: “The Golden Mickeys,” “Disney’s Believe,” and “Beauty & The Beast.”
Other entertainments perfect for adults include parties on the deck, nightclubs, lounges, movie premieres in the movie theater, fun activities like adult-only silent DJ Disco parties, the AquaDuck, and so much more!
That’s right, I included the water coaster as adult entertainment because I LOVED IT!
3. GOOD FOOD
& SERVICE
Disney cruises include most of the food and drinks in the cruise price. There are tons of food and snack options on the ships, both salty and sweet. Room service is 24 hours a day and is also complimentary!
Guests onboard will enjoy rotational dining rooms for dinner, which means you have dinner at a different restaurant every night.
There are also two dinner times, so if you prefer to have dinner with fewer children and less noise, select the later 8 PM dinner (Second Seating) as most families prefer the earlier dining time, the 6 PM Main Seating. You will still see children during the Second Seating, but it’s less than the earlier dining time.
There are also two upscale adult-only dining restaurants on the Disney Dream- Palo and Remy. These restaurants require reservations and are not included in the cruise price, but they are worth it if you have the budget.
The level of service on the Disney Cruise was top-notch! You can tell that excellent customer service is their top priority; everyone is super friendly and helpful.
All the crew members, from the dining room servers to the stateroom attendants, always checked that we had what we needed.
Speaking of staterooms, they were cleaned twice, once in the morning and then a nightly turn-down service with chocolates and even towel animals!
Let’s just say that you will be
S-P-O-I-L-E-D.
4. ADULT ONLY AREAS
There are many areas exclusively for adults on a Disney cruise. Adults can enjoy the adults-only pool and hot tub, fitness center, spa, coffee bar, and an entire area filled with bars, pubs, nightclubs, and lounges for late-night shenanigans.
My favorites were Cove Café for my morning latte with Disney art and the Pink: Wine & Champagne Bar in the evenings for yummy drinks and music.
5. FIREWORKS AT SEA
Disney Cruise Line was the first cruise line to have a fireworks display at sea and is still the only cruise line that produces a firework show!
On the Disney Dream, they incorporated the fireworks during the Pirate Night event, which made it a fun and magical experience.
If you are thinking of booking a Disney Cruise, chances are you are a kid at heart!
And if you’re not, I’m sure the magical display of fireworks out in the middle of the ocean can bring out the kid in anyone!
