Liverpool, England is such an amazing city! It’s full of history, culture, and has an incredible music scene.
And let’s not forget about the massive football (soccer) success! The Liverpool Football Club is one of the best teams out there.
Of course, Liverpool is also famous for being the home of the world’s greatest band, The Beatles. You simply can’t visit without learning about them! Even if you’re not a die-hard Beatles fan, there are plenty of other fun things to do in this beautiful city.
Here’s my recommendation on how to spend a day in Liverpool!
Visit a Museum
Liverpool has many museums, most of which are located just a few minutes away from each other around the Albert Dock area.
- Museum of Liverpool
- Maritime Museum
- The Beatles Story Museum
- British Museum Experience
- Tate Liverpool
I suggest visiting The Museum of Liverpool by the waterfront as it offers a great introduction to the city’s history for first-time visitors and the best part is that admission is free!
Admire The Three Graces
Liverpool is known for it’s architecture, and you will quickly notice some historical buildings as you walk around the city.
These three iconic buildings on the Liverpool Waterfront, known as “The Three Graces,” are the Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building.
Take a Selfie with the Beatles Statue
Don’t forget to snap a photo with the Fab Four when you’re in Liverpool!
It’s a must-do on the waterfront.
Also, definitely make time to visit Chester, England. It’s a charming and compact city, so you can easily explore all the main attractions in just one day.

Wander Around The Royal Albert Dock
The Albert Dock first opened in 1846 and it was the first structure in Britain built from cast iron, brick, and stone, without using wood. This made it the world’s first fire-proof warehouse system.
The warehouses stored items such as brandy, cotton, silk, tea, tobacco, and sugar.
Today, this historic dock is home to various museums, hotels, shops, restaurants, and bars, making it a popular tourist attraction and one of the top things to do in Liverpool.
After visiting the Museum of Liverpool, take a stroll over to Royal Albert Dock to explore the area and enjoy the beautiful views. If you’re short on time for a sit-down meal at one of the restaurants, you can grab a snack from any of the food trucks parked on Royal Albert Dock.
Take a Ride on the Magical Mystery Tour
If you’re a fan of the Beatles, then I highly recommend the Magical Mystery Tour Bus! It’s a 2-hour long adventure that starts at the Royal Albert Dock and takes you to all the key places related to the Beatles.
You’ll get to see their childhood homes and the areas in Liverpool that inspired some of their most iconic songs. Plus, you’ll learn fascinating facts about the Beatles’ history from a tour guide.
Getting to experience Penny Lane and Strawberry Field was definitely a highlight for me, making this tour one my favorite things to do in Liverpool!
Watch Live Music at the World-Famous Cavern Club
If you heeded my earlier advice and purchased tickets for the Magical Mystery Tour Bus, it will bring you to Mathew Street, one of the most iconic streets in the world, thanks to the legendary Cavern Club and its link to The Beatles.
The Cavern Club is a music venue known as the birthplace of the Beatles. Although it is now a replica, not the original, it is still worth a visit for the music and ambiance.
The Magical Mystery Tour Bus ticket includes complimentary admission to the Cavern Club.
Have Dinner at The Cavern Restaurant
Don’t overlook this spot just because it’s near The Cavern Club. Despite its touristy vibe, it offers excellent food and service. When visiting the Cavern Quarter, or before setting off to explore the area, be sure to drop by for some delightful bites!
Visit the Hard Day’s Night Hotel
Just steps away from the famous Cavern Club, you’ll find the Hard Day’s Night Beatles-themed hotel.
Include this in your Liverpool itinerary and discover the hotel’s Beatles-themed art and decor without needing to book a room. As you step into the lobby, you’ll be greeted by song lyrics hanging from the ceiling and larger-than-life portraits of the band members. The hotel’s decor, restaurant, bar, and guest rooms are all tastefully adorned with references to the iconic Beatles band.
