Dinosaur Valley State Park is about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Dallas, so I thought it would be the perfect spot for a day trip to check out some fascinating dinosaur tracks. But more than that, I was excited to get into nature (brave the cold), and explore a new hiking spot I’d never been to before. I’m on a mission to explore more local gems around Texas, and this one did not disappoint!

Why Visit Dinosaur Valley State Park?
Dinosaur Valley State Park, located in Glen Rose, Texas, is famous for its well-preserved fossilized dinosaur tracks, which date back around 113 million years. The park opened in 1972 with the goal of preserving these incredible footprints so people could learn about the dinosaurs that once roamed the area.
Some of the park’s tracks are even on display at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and the Texas Memorial Museum in Austin.
At the park, you can explore the dinosaur tracks, hike scenic trails, spot wildlife, and learn about the history behind the footprints. If the weather is warm, you can even swim in the Paluxy River.
