I recently stayed at a Getaway cabin near Dallas with my pup, Zoey. We hiked, snacked, and snuggled the entire trip.
After a weekend connecting with nature and breathing fresh air, I relaxed and got ready to start the new year feeling refreshed.
I recommend you pack your bags and head to a tiny cabin, turn off your phone, disconnect, and relax!
I’ve compiled a list of what I brought on my trip to help you prepare for your getaway. It’s important to have some basics and a few extra touches for cozy comfort.
The good news is that the Getaway Houses already have a lot of what you need, so you won’t have to pack a ton.
That is part of the appeal and the company’s overall intention; to keep it simple so you can enjoy more time outdoors or inside with good company.

You don’t need to go full Bear Grylls survival mode, but here is what you do need to make your trip comfortable and enjoyable!

Tips Before You Go:
- Don’t overpack; the space is small so go MINIMAL
- I recommend a backpack and a weekend bag because there isn’t room in the cabins for large suitcases
- Bring food but don’t overcomplicate it with tons of ingredients
- Download map on phone and also print it in case of no cell service
WHAT TO PACK
The Essentials
- Comfy lounging clothes
- Athletic clothes for nearby hikes
- Durable shoes for outside
- Pajamas
- Indoor slippers (because you don’t want to bring in all that dirt from the outside)
- Toiletries, tooth paste, tooth brush (skip the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash because it’s already provided in the cabin)
- Food (there are some items for purchase, but I recommend bringing your own food to cook)
- Beverages (water, milk, wine, whatever you fancy)
- Cooler with ice for drinks and for bringing food from home

When you make your reservation with Getaway House, you’ll have the option to add meals and snack provisions at the time of booking. You can also add them at any time during your stay.
I recommend bringing your food to save money. I would also recommend keeping the ingredients simple to avoid overpacking.
Here are some of the meals I prepared so you can add them to your Getaway packing list. Keep in mind that the cabin only has a mini-fridge and no freezer.
